The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), widely known as the Shanghai Ranking and one of the world’s most prestigious higher education rankings, has announced its 2025 results. Gazi University has secured a place among the world’s top 1000 universities, ranking in the 901–1000 band, marking a significant achievement.
11 Turkish Universities in the Global List
As one of Türkiye’s long-established institutions, Gazi University stands out in this year’s ranking, where a total of 11 Turkish universities succeeded in entering the global list. Within Türkiye, Gazi University is positioned in the 9–11 band, placing it among the country’s top 10 universities.
Evaluation Criteria of ARWU
ARWU assesses universities based on five fundamental criteria that measure scientific and academic performance. Each criterion carries a specific weight in the overall ranking:
Quality of Education (10%): Recognizes alumni awarded Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals.
Quality of Faculty (40%): Includes faculty members awarded Nobel Prizes or Fields Medals (20%) and the presence of highly cited researchers (20%).
Research Output (40%): Comprises publications in Nature and Science (20%) and papers indexed in SCI-Expanded and SSCI (20%).
Per Capita Performance (10%): Reflects the weighted academic performance relative to institutional size.
This methodology highlights not only student achievement but also the international impact of faculty, as well as the quality and productivity of research output.
